Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. Many people believe that it's an island to the west of Montreal, but it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I outgrew my male partners I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice by her drama instructor in high school who pushed her to the path she wanted. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition for the role of Anne for their school's annual production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the principal part in Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. It led to her receiving an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Over the past 20 years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have varied. Her role as Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was only seen on a few instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the sole Canadian participant.
